Applications for the use of magnesium anodes are not limited to structures buried in soil electrolytes. These anodes have also proven to be extremely effective in preventing corrosion in aqueous environments. MESA manufactures a full line of hull anodes produced from the H-1Alloy. The anodes produce an open circuit potential of 1.53 - 1.55 volts, and are cast into various circular and rectangular shapes.
Hull type anodes are available with cast-in galvanized steel mounting straps for weld or bolt-on attachment. In addition to these options, anodes can be provided with a plastisol coating. The anodes current output and direction can be controlled by removal of this coating.
Typical Applications
Hull magnesium anodes have a variety of fresh water applications. These include ship hulls, barges, condensers, heat exchangers, traveling screens, piers, pilings, and lock and dams. Because magnesium produces a high driving voltage, these types of anodes are also used for rapid polarization of structures in salt water environments.
